Luminous Mysteries

 The First Luminous Mystery - The Baptism of Jesus

1.  "I am baptizing you with water for repentance but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I."  (Matthew 3:11)

2.  "I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of His sandals."  (Luke 3:16)

3.  "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire."  (Luke 3:16)

4.  The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."  (John 1:29)

5.  John said to Him, "I have need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?"  (Matthew 3:14)

6.  Jesus said to him,  "Allow it now for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."  (Matthew 3:15)

7.  Then he allowed it.  (Matthew 3:15)

8.  After Jesus was baptized, He came out of the water and, behold, the heavens were opened unto Him.  (Matthew 3:16)

9.  And He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming upon Him.  (Matthew 3:16)

10.  And a voice from the heavens saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."  (Matthew 3:17)

 

The Second Luminous Mystery - The Self-Manifestation of Christ at Cana

 

1.  On the third day there was a wedding at Cana and the mother of Jesus was there.  (John 2:1)

2.  Jesus and His disciples were also invited to the wedding.  (John 2:2)

3.  When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine."  (John 2:3)

4.  Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect Me? My hour has not yet come."  (John 2:4)

5.  His mother instructed those waiting on table, "Do whatever He tells you."  (John 2:5)

6.  Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water."  And they filled them to the brim.  (John 2:7)

7.  Then He told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter."  (John 2:8)

8.  And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine without knowing where it had come from, he called the bridegroom.  (John 2:9)

9.  And said to him, "Every man serves good wine first; and when men have drunk freely, an inferior one, but you have kept the good wine until now."  (John 2:9-10)

10.  Jesus did this as the beginning of His signs in Cana of Galilee, and so revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.  (John 2:11)

 

The Third Luminous Mystery - The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God

 

1.  "This is the time of fulfillment."  (Mark 1:15)

2.  "The kingdom of God is at hand."  (Mark 1:15)

3.  "Repent and believe in the gospel."  (Mark 1:15)

4.  And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic carried by four men.  And when Jesus saw their faith He said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven."  (Mark 2:3-5)

5.  "But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...I say to you rise, take up your pallet and go home."  (Mark 2:10-11)

6.  But He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."  (Luke 7:50)

7.  "So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; for she has shown great love."  (Luke 7:47)

8.  Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."  (John 20:19-20)

9.  And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit."  (John 20:22)

10.  "As the Father has sent Me, even so I send you."  (John 20:22)

 

The Fourth Luminous Mystery - The Transfiguration

 

1.   About eight days after saying these things, He took Peter and John and James, and went up the mountain to pray.  (Luke 9:28)

2.  While He prayed, His face changed and His clothing became dazzling white.  (Luke 9:29)

3.  And, behold, there were two men talking to Him, Moses and Elijah.  (Luke 9:30)

4.  Who appeared in glory, and spoke of His death which He should accomplish in Jerusalem.  (Luke 9:31)

5.  Peter and his companions were overcome with sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw His glory, and the two men that stood with Him.  (Luke 9:32)

6.  As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good we are here; let us make three tents; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."  (Luke 9:33)

7.  While he was still speaking, there came a cloud and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened as they entered into the cloud.  (Luke 9:34)

8.  And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is My chosen Son; listen to Him."  (Luke 9:35)

9.  After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.  (Luke 9:36)

10.  They fell silent and did not tell anyone at this time what they has seen.  (Luke 9:36)

 

The Fifth Luminous Mystery - The Institution of the Eucharist

 

1.  Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father, except through me."  (John 14:6)

2.  "...Whoever has seen me has seen the Father."  (John 14:9)

3.  "And whatever you ask in My name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."  (John 14:13)

4.  "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you."  (John 14:27)

5.  "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower."  (John 15:1)

6.  "If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; just as I have kept my Father's commandments, and remain in His love."  (John 15:10)

7.  "This I command you, love one another."  (John 15:17)

8.  And as they were eating, Jesus took break, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to His disciples and said, "Take and eat; this is my body."  (Matthew 26:26)

9.  Then He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying, "Drink from it all of you."  (Matthew 26:27)

10.  "For this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins."  (Matthew 26:28)
